Our Impact on Sustainability
The CNE is dedicated to creating a cleaner and more sustainable future through innovation, waste diversion, circular economy initiatives, and forward-thinking operational enhancements. As Canada’s largest annual event, the CNE continues to reduce the environmental impact of its operations, vendors, and visitors while advancing responsible event practices. The CNE’s ongoing efforts focus on improving recycling, composting, and energy efficiency across the fairgrounds. Aligned with the City of Toronto’s goal of achieving Net Zero readiness by 2040, the CNE is developing its own pathway toward the same target. Building on its progress and learnings, the CNE aims to set new sustainability benchmarks, share best practices with other events of all sizes, and serve as a leader and collaborative resource for advancing environmental stewardship across the event industry.

The CNE's rich and colourful history is deeply entrenched in the Canadian experience and Toronto's legacy. Founded in 1879 as the Toronto Industrial Exhibition, the CNE is a not-for-profit organization that has enjoyed a distinguished history as a showcase of the nation.
